Resist stopping at every distant sea view. The practical goal is to reach Porto Katsiki before the busiest parking and stair traffic. Save photographs for a safe pull-off or the official viewpoint; never stop on a bend.

What not to add: Egremni by land

Return toward Athani for a proper pause. The village area is the natural place to find seasonal tavernas or cafés on this route. Choose what is open and appealing rather than driving between saved map pins.
Lunch serves a planning purpose: it moves the group out of peak sun, replaces water and energy, and gives you time to decide whether the afternoon should continue on the west coast. Confirm current opening hours, especially outside July and August.
One day in Lefkada itinerary: Gialos or the sheltered south
If the west coast is calm and everyone has energy: Gialos
Gialos is reached by a winding road from the Athani area and does not require a major cliff staircase. Use it for a second swim and a long, spacious shore. Check current road conditions and remember that west-coast waves affect Gialos too.

Drive toward the south-coast option only if it fits your return direction. Ammoussa is a compact road-access cove with seasonal facilities and generally more protection than the open west. It is a weather alternative, not a promise of calm water.
If travelling back north after the day, consider whether the extra southern detour is worth it. A long lunch and early return may be the better choice.
If everyone is tired: stop
Skip the second beach. Have coffee, return to the accommodation, or take a safe scenic pause. Porto Katsiki plus Athani is already a valid one-day Lefkada experience.
Evening: choose dinner or sunset, not both at opposite ends
If you remain in the southwest, eat near the route you are already driving. If your accommodation is north, begin the return before fatigue and darkness make winding roads unpleasant.
A sunset stop works only when it does not create a rushed late drive. Kathisma is an easy west-facing sunset beach, but adding it after Porto Katsiki, Athani, and Gialos means covering much of the coast. Save it unless it lies naturally on the way to your base and the group still has energy.
Alternative one-day route: Agios Nikitas without a long drive south
Choose this if you are based near Lefkada Town, want a village day, or do not need Porto Katsiki:
- Arrive in Agios Nikitas early and park according to current rules outside or around the pedestrian village.
- Take the hill path to Milos Beach or the seasonal boat after confirming the return.
- Return for lunch in the village.
- Use Pefkoulia for an easy sunset stop, or finish at Kathisma if organized facilities matter.
This route stays within one northwest area and gives more time outside the car. It is the better one-day plan for travellers who value a village, food, and a natural beach over the southwest landmark.
Alternative one-day route without a car
Base the day around a place reached by a confirmed bus or seasonal boat rather than trying to reproduce the driving itinerary. Agios Nikitas can support a village beach plus Milos by path or boat. Vasiliki can support the harbour, local beach, and a seasonal Agiofili transfer.
Check official timetables for the exact date and make the last return non-negotiable. Taxis may fill gaps, but availability and cost should be confirmed rather than assumed.
